When Disney Plus launched in November 2019, it was an instant success. This was due in part to its deep catalog of classic and current Disney movies and TV shows but also because you could sign up for a really low price and still get content at up to 4K resolution. Since the launch, the service’s plans have gone up in price a couple of times, and on December 8, they will do so again while also introducing a new subscription tier. So how much is Disney Plus now, and what will the prices be like after December 8? Here’s the info on how much does Disney Plus cost now and in the future.

Disney Plus plans and prices explained

At the moment, there are only two official Disney Plus plans. There’s the monthly subscription tier and the annual plan. Both offer the same features, with up to four concurrent streams at once, up to seven profiles per account, up to 4K resolution on certain movies and TV shows, support for GroupWatch remote viewing, and full parental controls.

In the United States, the current price for the service on its own is $7.99 a month, with the option to pay $79.99 for a full year of service. However, outside the US, prices are much higher for Disney Plus, thanks to the addition of the Star brand, which offers more mature content from Disney, 20th Century Studios, and more.

Here’s a look at the current pricing for the standalone service in the US and in some other parts of the world.

  • US: $7.99 a month/$79.99 a year
  • Canada: $11.99 a month/$119.99 a year
  • Europe: €8.99 a month/€89.90 a year
  • UK: £7.99 a month/£79.90 a year
  • South Korea: KRW 9,900 a month/KRW 99,000 a year
  • India: Rs 299 a month/Rs 1,499 a year
  • Australia: $11.99 a month/$119.99 a year
  • New Zealand: $12.99 a month/$129.99 a year

New prices and new ad-based plan coming on December 8 to the US

Earlier this year, it was announced that Disney Plus would put in place an ad-based plan while at the same time raising prices for its ad-free plans. The new plan and the price increases will go into effect on December 8 and will start just in the United States, with plans to add more markets in the months ahead.

The new ad-based plan, with around four minutes of ads per hour, will cost $7.99 a month, or $79.99 a year. That’s the same amount as the current ad-free plans. If you want to save some money, we would recommend signing up for the service at the current $79.99 annual plan before the new ad-based plans go into effect.

On the same day that the new ad-based plan goes live, prices for the ad-free plan will go up drastically to $10.99 a month, or $109.99 a year.

How much are the Disney Plus-Hulu-ESPN bundle plans?

In the US, Disney also has two other streaming services, Hulu and ESPN Plus. So the company wisely started to bundle the three services into one. Currently, there are two plans for the bundle. One costs $13.99 a month and includes Disney Plus, ESPN Plus, and Hulu under its ad-based tier. The second plan costs $19.99 a month and includes Disney Plus, ESPN Plus, and Hulu under its ad-free tier. Sadly, there are no annual plans for this bundle.

Things will get a lot more complicated on December 8 with the price increases and the new Disney Plus ad-based plan. Here are the four bundle plans that will go into effect on that date:

  • Disney Plus with ads and Hulu with ads for $9.99 a month
  • Disney Plus with ads, Hulu with ads and ESPN Plus for $12.99 a month
  • Disney Plus with no ads, Hulu with ads, and ESPN Plus for $14.99 a month
  • Disney Plus with no ads, Hulu with no ads, and ESPN Plus for $19.99 a month

As you can see, we will get two new bundles for a lower price thanks to the Disney Plus with ads plan. The standard bundle price goes up one dollar to $13.99 a month, but the highest-priced bundle, with no ads on both Disney Plus and Hulu, along with ESPN Plus, will remain the same at $19.99 a month. Once again, we are not getting an annual plan with any of these bundles.

Hulu Plus Live TV Plans

In addition to the bundle plans, you can also get Disney Plus and ESPN Plus if you sign up for a Hulu Plus Live TV subscription, which offers over 75 live TV channels, cloud DVR support, and more channels via ad-ons. You can currently get Hulu Plus Live TV with ads for $69.99 a month, with Disney Plus and ESPN Plus included at no extra cost. You can get the same service with no ads on Hulu for $75.99 a month

Once again, starting December 8, Hulu Plus Live TV plans will get an additional plan, along with price increases for existing plans. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Disney Plus with ads, Hulu Plus Live TV with ads, and ESPN plus for $69.99 a month
  • Disney Plus with no ads, Hulu Plus Live TV with ads and ESPN Plus for $74.99 a month
  • Disney Plus with no ads, Hulu Plus Live TV with no ads and ESPN Plus for $82.99 a month

What was Disney Plus Premier Access?

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Disney decided to add movie content originally planned for a theatrical debut to Disney Plus directly since many movie theaters were shut down. Some of those movies were added at no additional cost, such as the Pixar movies Soul and Luca and the filmed version of the stage musical Hamilton. However, the company did launch four movies in theaters and on the streaming service at the same time under the Disney Plus Premier Access plan.

The movies that were released under that plan allowed those subscribers to get early access to those movies for a one-time extra fee of $29.99 for each film. After that payment, those subscribers could watch the movie several months before the rest of the streaming audience could access it for no additional charge.

Four movies were released via the Disney Plus Premier Access plan in 2021: the live-action version of Mulan, Cruella, Black Widow, and Jungle Cruise. Since then, most movie theaters have opened back up, and there’s no indication of any plans to bring back this option.

How to get Disney Plus for free or on a discount

The service used to have a free trial period for people to check out the service before committing their dollars. Sadly, that trial period is no longer available. However, there are ways to get Disney Plus for free, or for a discount. On occasion, the company has lowered the first month’s price to just $1.99 a month for a brief time.

We’ve already mentioned that you can get the service for no additional cost with Hulu Plus Live TV. You can also get it as a free extra with certain wireless smartphone plans. Finally, you can use your family or friend’s account to access the service with your own personal profile. Technically, account sharing is not allowed, but it looks like Disney is mostly willing to look the other way, at least for now. Of course that’s just scratching the surface, so be sure to check out our guide on how to get Disney Plus for free.
