HMD announces new Nokia event: James Bond collaboration incoming?

We already know about the supposed Nokia 5.2, but it looks like HMD has more surprises up its sleeve.

HMD Global is holding a Nokia event this month.

Nokia brand licensee HMD Global was originally scheduled to hold a launch event in Barcelona as part of MWC 2020 festivities. Unfortunately, the company canceled the event after the expo itself was scrapped.

Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long for HMD to hold a new event, as it’s just sent out invites for a March 19 launch in London. Check out the invite image below:

The invite doesn’t give us any clues as to what we can expect, but chief product officer Juho Sarvikas posted a teaser to Twitter. And the teaser suggests that a James Bond 007 collaboration could be in the works. Check it out below.

It wouldn’t be the first time the franchise was associated with Nokia-branded products either. The canceled Lumia McLaren smartphone originally had the codename Goldfinger, while a canceled Nokia smartwatch was codenamed Moonraker.

Otherwise, serial leaker Evan Blass previously showed off a Nokia device dubbed Captain America. The phone could be the Nokia 5.2, and has 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, four rear cameras, a rear fingerprint scanner, and a waterdrop screen. Blass added that the phone was set for a March 4 launch for ~$180. So we’re definitely expecting this device when HMD’s event kicks off.

It’s also possible that the Nokia 5G phone and a Nokia Android Go device could make an appearance. In the case of the former, HMD previously confirmed that it’s working on a Snapdragon 765 series phone with ZEISS optics and PureDisplay tech. But one thing we’re not expecting is the Nokia 9.2 PureView, as it’s said to arrive in the second half of 2020.
