It’s been a busy year for HERE Maps. In the late summer of 2015, the Nokia business was bought by a group of German car manufacturers to the tune of $2.8 billion. Soon after, the team started playing with shared routes. Now the travel companion is getting a full facelift. It could be the case that the dev team wanted their product to have a more distinctive name. After all, both “HERE” and “Maps” are pretty common words. Adding the neologism WeGo is not only a strong branding move, but it also has the benefit of making the app name a complete sentence.

HERE WeGo aims to be your go-to travel companion, and its active beta program gives the developers constant feedback from the Android community. This has led them to develop accurate cost of travel estimates for long trips, live traffic updates in over 50 countries, turn-by-turn navigation for walking or driving, and the locations of taxi stands and car parks. If you’re going on a bike ride, you can even have the app estimate how difficult the terrain will be.
