TL;DR
  • Goosebumps HorrorTown is a new world building game from developer Pixowl.
  • It features countless iconic characters from R.L. Stine’s hit book series, with more to be added in future updates.
  • Goosebumps HorrorTown is free-to-play, and can be downloaded now from the Google Play Store.

R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps book series is responsible for countless nightmares for those of us who grew up in the ’90s. Now those stories can be relived in Goosebumps HorrorTown on Android and iOS devices.

For those outside of the 20-35 age range, Goosebumps is a series of short, terrifying children’s novellas released throughout the mid-’90s. It was hugely successful, and to date it’s the second best selling book series of all time at 350+ million copies sold, trailing only Harry Potter. It was later adapted into a television series that aired around the world.

Goosebumps HorrorTown features many famous monsters from the books, including Slappy the ventriloquist dummy, Curly the skeleton, the Mummy, and Murder the Clown. The children from the stories are also a part of the game, and players have to send monsters to terrify children in order to obtain items and currency. At the same time, the children themselves can also be sent to watch the monsters and uncover their mysteries.

As you build out your town you can unlock more monsters and characters from the books to relive story lines from your childhood. Developer Pixowl has stated that it will add more characters in the coming months, so it will take some time to collect everything the game has to offer.

With more than 62 books in the series, Goosebumps IP is ripe for the picking. Since the Goosebumps HorrorTown was announced earlier this month, more than half a million Goosebumps fans have pre-registered. If you enjoyed the series as a kid, odds are you’ll find some joy in this new release.

Goosebumps HorrorTown isn’t Pixowl’s first IP-based simulation game, with the Peanuts-based Snoopy’s Town Tale already under its belt. In fact, Goosebumps HorrorTown features remarkably similar gameplay to the Peanuts title, with different characters and an added layer of spookiness. Pixowl is also the studio behind the award-winning world building game The Sandbox, which has been downloaded more than 40 million times on Android and iOS.
