TL;DR
  • Google marked the 10th anniversary of its Google Play online store with a new logo design.
  • The new logo matches the branding for many of the company’s other software products.
  • Users can also get a nice birthday boost in Google Play Points as well.

In March 2021, Google decided to rename its smartphone and tablet digital storefront from Android Market to Google Play. Today, the company announced it was celebrating the 10th anniversary of Google Play (several months late) with a new logo and a new promotion.

The company said that Google Play is currently used by 2.5 billion people in over 190 countries every month to download new apps, games, and more from the store. The new logo for Google Play, while not a major change from its previous design, is supposed to make it look like the logo for some of Google’s other software services like Gmail, Photos, and more.

The previous logo had the same sideways triangle, but the blue color took over much more of its area. The new logo rounds out the points of the triangle even more, and more importantly, the blue, red, yellow, and green colors are now distributed much more evenly inside the logo shape.

Aside from the logo change, Google is celebrating in another way as well. If you are a member of the Google Play Points program, you know you can get points towards the purchases of new apps and services with every Google Play purchase. For today’s 10th anniversary celebration, you can get 10 times more Google Play Points than normal for a limited time.
