Google Play is working on a Spotify-style taste profile, but for games
Oct 7, 2026 — 2:20 PM ET

- Google is working on an AI-powered Game Finder feature for the Play Store that could offer more personalized game recommendations.
- A new Gamer DNA profile would use your gameplay, ratings, and interests to shape suggestions, and users could tweak it to fine-tune their feed.
- We were able to surface the Gamer DNA UI, but the feature wasn’t functional.
We already know that Google is working on a custom game playlist feature that will let users group and store Play Store games into different categories, but that tool assumes that you already have games in mind that you want to save. What about when you have no idea what to play next? Google appears to be working on an answer for that too.
Right now, finding a game on the Google Play Store involves scrolling through storefront listings, charts, and dedicated sections based on genre. There is some personalization with sections like “Recommended for you,” but it’s overall fairly passive. Google wants to change that with a discovery tool called Game Finder.

We found hints about the development in Google Play Store version 53.4.34-34, with newly added code strings suggesting the arrival of a feature that could offer “an intelligent, personalized game discovery experience that puts you in control.” It’s named Game Finder, and Google appears to be building it around what it’s calling Gamer DNA.
The idea sounds a lot like Spotify’s Taste Profile. The music streaming platform uses your listening habits to influence recommendations. Gamer DNA would do the same for games. The tool would base its suggestions based on your gameplay, ratings, and interests.
It appears as though users will have the option to modify their Gamer DNA to influence the titles Game Finder recommends to them. According to the strings we found, you’ll be able to fine-tune your Game Finder feed at any time. If and when the tool does roll out, it will ask users to complete an onboarding process. This includes telling Play about your gaming interests and “what you enjoy.”

<string name="string_7f140930">You can modify your Gamer DNA anytime to tune your feed.</string>Other strings reference that game recommendations will be “personalized” and “uniquely curated for you.” Within the suggestions, you’ll likely have the option to manually search for games and genres.
It also looks like Google wants this to be a feature that you update as your interests change. One string suggests that Google will prompt users to actively rate games and add new interests to get better recommendations.

Interestingly, there also appears to be a “daily refresh” for the tool. If you trigger it, your Gamer DNA “will update automatically on your next visit.” It’s not entirely clear whether modifying your Gamer DNA will result in a refresh.
We were able to manually trigger Gamer DNA’s UI, but it isn’t yet functional, so we haven’t been able to actually try it out in operation just yet.

<string name="string_7f141a9e">Game finder is powered by AI and can make mistakes. Check responses for accuracy.</string>The strings also make it clear that this is an AI-powered feature that can make mistakes. Regardless, it already sounds better than any of the current game discovery tools that the Play Store offers.
As always with changes uncovered through an app teardown, there’s no guarantee Game Finder nor Gamer DNA will launch. If the new feature does make it out, it might not look or function as we’ve described here.
