Google just quietly erased the Pixel Tablet from its store

Google’s 2023-released Pixel Tablet was supposed to be the tech giant’s big return to the large-screen product category, but it ended up being a short-lived second act. For those unaware, Google cancelled plans for the Google Tablet’s successor late in 2024, before eventually putting its broader tablet ambitions on pause. The original Pixel Tablet has stuck around since then, but even that chapter appears to be closing now.

The Pixel Tablet had been out of stock on the Google Store for a while. However, up until recently, its product page remained live. That’s no longer the case.

Heading to the Pixel Tablet page now redirects users to the Google Store homepage. The “Tablets” section has also vanished from the store’s menus, essentially erasing the product category from the website. The change isn’t limited to the US Google Store. We checked, and the tablet has vanished from the Canadian and the UK stores as well.

According to the Wayback Machine, the last captured archive of the page was taken earlier this month. Up until its disappearance, the page also gave users the option to sign up for info on the return of Pixel Tablet sales. This comes soon after we reported that the Google Store was sold out of every single smart display device.

Now, the Tablet disappearance doesn’t look like a simple stock shortage. Instead, it appears to be the final nail in the Pixel Tablet’s coffin. Note that the website still lists the Pixel Tablet’s Charging Speaker Dock, cases, stands, screen protectors, and more, likely for those who already own a Pixel Tablet. Additionally, existing owners aren’t being abandoned. Google guarantees OS and security updates for the device through June 2028. However, those looking to pick up a new Google Tablet appear to be out of luck. You might be able to find leftover stock with third-party retailers, but you probably won’t be able to pick one up directly from Google going forward.

Elsewhere, Google also doesn’t seem to have a successor ready to take the Pixel Tablet’s place. When it canceled the Pixel Tablet 2, it confirmed that development had been put on hold to reconsider what role such a device would play in its lineup. This keeps the door open for a new tablet in the future, though there’s no indication of one arriving anytime soon.

The company hasn’t explicitly announced that it has discontinued the Pixel Tablet, but after severe stock issues, a cancelled successor, paused development, and now the removal of the Pixel Tablet page from the storefront, the writing is on the wall.
