Google Pixel 7 Pro prototype leaks in implausible story, but still cool to see

The story behind this is almost certainly false, but hey, the phone looks sweet.

TL;DR
  • A Twitter user has posted photos of a Google Pixel 7 Pro prototype.
  • The story of how the user got the prototype is questionable at best.
  • There’s also a photo of the prototype in a Pixel 6 Pro case to show the differences.

The next round of Google’s flagship phones will likely land in October. However, we’ve already gotten an early look at them from Google itself. Today, though, we have a different kind of look.

Thanks to @soulpee on Twitter, we have what appears to be a Google Pixel 7 Pro prototype. The phone has the usual prototype Google logo on the back where the regular “G” logo would be. Even the phone’s software heavily suggests it is a Pixel 7 Pro prototype.

Check out the photos below:

One can’t help but wonder: how would anyone get ahold of a prototype such as this? According to the leaker, his “friend” obtained it through Facebook Marketplace. This friend ordered a Pixel 6 Pro and got this instead.

Obviously, that’s almost certainly a made-up story. Regardless, this does appear to be a legitimate Google Pixel 7 Pro prototype, so how he got it is kind of irrelevant.

In the first picture on the left, you can see the back of the prototype in full. The middle photo shows the device’s info, with CUBOT, “cheetah,” and “tiramisu” all being code words and references to the Pixel 7 Pro and Google’s development protocols.

Finally, on the right, you have the prototype in a Google Pixel 6 Pro case. As you can see, the camera placement is very different, so your Pixel 6 cases are not likely to fit your Pixel 7.

If history has taught us anything, it’s that there will be many more leaks like this coming over the next few months. Stay tuned.
