Google IO 2022 pixel 7 announced

TL;DR
  • The Pixel 7 launch event could apparently take place on October 6.
  • The phones are said to go on sale from October 13.

Google surprised us back in May when it confirmed the existence of the Pixel 7 series phones and gave us a peek at their designs. The company only confirmed a fall 2022 launch window at the time, now a YouTuber and frequent leaker may have given us the exact dates.

Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech said the Pixel 7 series will go on pre-order on October 6 and will be available from October 13, citing “very reputable sources.” Prosser also suggests that the October 6 pre-order date will be the date of the launch event.

The YouTuber has a pretty solid record regarding device launches in recent years, accurately predicting an October 19 launch for the Pixel 6 series as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 launch date. But he has had a couple of misses too, such as erroneously claiming the Pixel 5a was canceled. Nevertheless, an October launch certainly sounds about right for Google.

We’re expecting the new phones to follow in the footsteps of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. That means a 90Hz OLED screen and dual rear camera setup for the standard Pixel 7 and a 120Hz OLED panel and triple rear camera system for the Pro device. Google is also expected to offer a second-generation Tensor chipset in the new phones.

We’ll officially know more on the launch date, but here’s hoping Google also addresses the numerous problems we saw with the Pixel 6 series.
