TL;DR
  • Google announced at I/O 2022 that the Pixel 6 series has already outsold its previous two flagships.
  • The company didn’t divulge specific sales numbers.

The Pixel 6 phones have been a success story for the company, and it isn’t shy about telling you just how well the series has performed.

At I/O 2022, Google announced that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro have already outsold the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 5 series.

“It’s the fastest-selling Pixel ever despite all the supply constraints in the industry,” Google’s VP of  Product Management, Brian Rakowski, announced on stage as he went on to unveil the Pixel 6a.

This isn’t the first time Google has touted the success of the Pixel 6 duo. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai previously revealed that the company set a record for Pixel sales in Q4, 2021. Pichai didn’t specifically say he was talking about the Pixel 6 series, but the devices launched in the same quarter, so it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that they were partly responsible for this feat.

“The response to Pixel 6 from our customers and carrier partners was incredibly positive,” Pichai revealed during an earnings call.

Despite launching in a handful of markets in the midst of a global chip shortage, the Pixel 6 series has a lot going for it. The phone scores top marks in our review in all aspects, including design, display, cameras, battery life, and competitive pricing.

As our own Hadlee Simons recently opined, “Google actually tried with the Pixel series and it’s working.”
