Nest doorbells get their spooky chimes back just in time for Halloween
Oct 16, 2026 — 5:40 PM ET

- Google has brought back nine Halloween-themed chimes for compatible Nest doorbells, letting you greet trick-or-treaters with spooky sounds.
- A recent Google Home app update lets you preview the chimes directly on your phone without ringing the doorbell.
- The Halloween chimes are available for a limited time and will likely disappear on November 1.
Halloween is just around the corner, and if you’re planning on welcoming trick-or-treaters, Google has a little something to help you get in the spirit. If you own a Nest doorbell, you should now be able to greet visitors with a spooky sound, instead of the regular (boring) ding-dong.
Google has brought back its Halloween-themed chimes, and there are nine different tones that you can switch between to surprise visitors. The development was first spotted by the folks over at 9to5Google.
To try out the new chimes, open the Google Home app and head to your Nest doorbell’s settings. Look for the Seasonal themes section under Doorbell theme, and this is where you should find the Halloween collection.
More importantly, you should now be able to quickly listen to all the options through your phone, without having to physically go out and ring your doorbell. The functionality was added with the recent September 30 Google Home app update. This applies to regular, non-themed chimes, as well.
If you have visitor announcements enabled, not only will the trick-or-treaters hear the spooky chime when they press your doorbell, but you’ll also hear it inside your home too. We’d suggest setting the Halloween chime on the day of, unless you’re perfectly fine listening to spooky doorbell sounds for the next two weeks and making everyone who comes to your door suffer, too.
Alternatively, if you, for any reason, do not plan to welcome trick-or-treaters, or if you’ll be away from home yourself, you can turn off the doorbell’s chime by heading to the Google Home app > Nest Doorbell > Settings > Chime.
This isn’t the first time Google has offered Halloween-themed chimes. The tradition dates all the way back to 2019, when the Nest Doorbell was still known as the Nest Hello. As always, expect the seasonal chimes to go away soon after Halloween.
