Google smart displays
TL;DR
  • A new Google “interactive video streaming device” has landed on the FCC website.
  • This new device is most likely the Google Home Hub smart display.
  • We’ve previously revealed that the Google Home Hub will have a $149 price tag.

The Google Home Hub is expected to be the company’s own take on a smart display. Now, an FCC listing for a Google device may have given us more information…

The listing, filed by Google, describes an “interactive video streaming device.” This sounds like any gadget with a screen and wireless connectivity, but we also have a few more details.

For one, a render of the FCC label’s location (the first image below) shows a partial view of the bottom of the device. This view seems to match up with the base seen in images previously leaked by MySmartPrice.

The filing also reveals Bluetooth/Wi-Fi functionality but no cellular connectivity, suggesting it’s definitely not a smartphone. Adding to this is an assertion in one report that the device can “only be set up in desktop orientation.”

Lenovo Smart Display vs Google Home

The Google Home Hub is expected to support video streaming, Chromecast capabilities, and the Google Assistant. Its launch would also come a while after several other Google-powered smart displays, such as the JBL Link View and Lenovo Smart Display.

As per our previous coverage, the Google device is set to land later this fall for $149. We’re looking forward to a proper reveal at the company’s October 9 event, along with the Pixel 3 series.
