TL;DR
  • Google is working on a Google TV-like service for Chromebook gaming.
  • The feature will help further Chromebook’s position in the gaming market.

Google is bringing the power of search to video games, making it easier for Chromebook users to find and play games.

The internet is filled with various game streaming platforms, but finding a specific game can be time-consuming. Google is hoping to make it a little easier, thanks to a search service that will aggregate various game sources, providing a central location for users to search, according to 9to5Google.

The following description of the new service was discovered in a note to translators working on Chromium:

It’s not the first time Google has worked to integrate content from various services in a central location. Google TV performs a similar service, pulling in programming from multiple streaming platforms, saving users time and effort when looking for something to watch. Similarly, Chrome OS provides a way to easily display Android apps in the Chrome launcher’s search feature.

It’s unclear how far Google plans to take this new search option. It may be deployed only on Chrome OS, further setting up Chromebooks as a viable gaming platform, or it may be extended to the company’s other products and services.

Either way, with gaming’s increasing importance and reach, Google’s plans are good news for Chromebook gamers.
