Google Cardboard Street View

Have you ever wanted to see the Giza Necropolis but can’t stand long haul flights? A virtual tour probably sounds pretty enticing then, and Google has taken us one step closer to virtual sightseeing with a little VR easter egg hidden away within Google Maps.

Paired up with Google’s inexpensive Cardboard headset and Map’s Street View mode, you can now take a 3D look around a good portion of the globe for free. If you want to try out the feature for yourself, this little GIF from Google will guide you through the process. It’s pretty straight forward.

Having played around with the feature for a little while, the 3D effect, while ok in places, isn’t nearly as strong as most other Cardboard applications. A number of places often just feel like you are looking at a flat image, but this is still a promising start and not at all a bad effort for a little hidden feature.
