Google Assistant will soon help you find an electrician or plumber

Google Assistant will soon help you find someone to unclog that drain, install a new electrical box, or clean up before your guests get there.

Google’s goal to make Google Assistant your ultimate personal assistant is coming along nicely. We’ve seen new features added, new languages supported, and improvements to make its speech sound even more natural. Now, Google is making it even easier to find nearby services like an electrician or plumber.

To begin your search, say “Ok Google, find me a plumber” to your Android phone, iPhone, or Assistant-enabled speaker. Assistant will ask you a couple of follow-up questions like what exactly you need the plumber for (unclogging a drain, installing a facet, etc.) and confirm the address where you need them. It’ll then give you a list of plumbers with some basic information about each of them. Once you’ve found the one you want to work with, Google Assistant will initiate a call for you.

The coolest part of this that in selected cities, Assistant will suggest companies that Google and companies like HomeAdvisor and Porch are pre-screened. This should give people a little more confidence than hiring a business based on search results alone. If your city doesn’t have pre-screened results, Google will still offer up nearby results for you to choose from.

Google hasn’t released the full list of categories that Assistant will help you with. But, we do know there will be plumbers, electricians, painters, and house cleaners. You should see the new results roll out in the next few weeks in the United States.

What do you think? Will you feel comfortable hiring someone after a quick search on Google Assistant or do you need to do more research before deciding? Let us know down in the comments.
