Gemini's overcrowded account switcher could finally get a cleanup alongside these UI changes

Google keeps adding new features to Gemini, and while it’s good to see these improvements, it seems the Gemini account switcher has taken the brunt of it. Fortunately, Google is working on changes that could streamline things.

We took a close look at the latest version of the Google app (v17.58.13) and spotted several UI changes in the Google account switcher and Gemini. With a bit of tinkering, we managed to enable these features on our test device, and it turns out there’s a lot new here.

More streamlined account switcher

Right now, the Gemini account switcher has a long list of settings. It’s one of the longest settings menus in any Google app, so the company is now making adjustments. Google could soon remove most of the options currently in the account switcher and streamline it down to a few relevant choices. It still includes the Gem manager, but that will likely go away soon, as Google is expected to remove Gems from Gemini.

All Gemini-related settings from the account switcher will move to the Gemini Settings page instead. Google is also adding categories to the Gemini Settings page to better organize these options, namely “Preferences,” “Data & Privacy,” and “Get support.”

Improved search in Gemini

Google is also working to improve the search feature in Gemini. Right now, if you search for a chat, the app displays a list of conversations with the most relevant options at the top. Google is working on letting users switch between “Most Relevant” or “Most Recent” search results.

It could also move the search bar to the bottom for easier one-handed use and add new chat icons to the left of each search result.

New “Discover ideas” option and UI tweaks

We also found that the company was working on a new option on the Gemini home screen, called “Discover ideas.” This isn’t fully implemented yet, as tapping it currently displays a screen with the text “Explore ideas and inspirations.” However, it could potentially give users ideas on how to use Gemini.

Also new is the design for the “Chat” and “Task” buttons on the home screen that we originally spotted earlier this month. Back then, these were labeled “Chat” and “Assign,” but Google has now renamed the “Assign” button to “Task.” It has also changed the input box placeholder text from “Ask Gemini” to “Try @ for more” on the Gemini home screen.

These tweaks to the Google account switcher and the Gemini app experience are still under development. However, it’s clear Google is trying to figure out the best way to keep Gemini settings neatly organized while continuing to add new features to its AI assistant. It’s also clear the company is still experimenting with UI tweaks to encourage more users to try Gemini Spark on mobile and Gemini’s connected apps.
