TL;DR
  • Washington, D.C. is handing out free AirPods to teens who get vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • The promotion is open to teens aged 12 to 17 who get their first shot at one of three sites in the city.
  • If AirPods aren’t a good enough incentive, teens can instead get a $51 gift card. They can also enter to win a huge scholarship.

Across the world, many governments are experimenting with incentives to push citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Here in the United States, local governments are trying all sorts of things including cold hard cash. President Joe Biden even suggested every citizen should get $100 to get a COVID shot.

In Washington, D.C., the mayor’s office just announced an incentive program geared directly towards teens (h/t Cult of Mac). Any person aged 12 to 17 can get a set of free AirPods in exchange for getting their first shot. The only stipulation (besides age) is that you must bring a parent/guardian with you and get the shot at one of three sites within the city limits.

Those sites are Brookland MS, Sousa MS, or Johnson MS.

Even if you don’t meet the age requirements, you still have a chance to get the free AirPods. The program is also open to students aged 18 to 21 who are pursuing a high school diploma.

If you’re a super cool teen who already has a set of AirPods — or have some of these awesome alternatives instead — you can pass on that gift and get a $51 gift card instead. No matter which you choose, you can also enter to win a $25,000 scholarship.

Essentially, if you’re an unvaccinated teen in the D.C. area, you have every reason to go get vaccinated now. If free AirPods won’t do it, we’re not sure what will.
