Square Enix has announced a remaster of 2004’s Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles during its E3 2019 presentation last night. Called Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, the game will launch this winter for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.

The original game features a single-player campaign with four main characters. They travel in a caravan and gather fuel for crystals needed to protect towns and other settlements from miasma, a destructive force that’s taking over the world.

Because of the number of main characters, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles also lets you play with three other people. The original game was unique in that it required players to connect their Game Boy Advance systems to the Nintendo GameCube if they wanted to play four-player local multiplayer.

The good news is that no such silly requirement is present for local multiplayer in the remaster. In addition to local play, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition also allows for online multiplayer.

There’s no word yet on pricing or availability apart from the “winter 2019” release window. We also don’t know if the game will be free-to-play or have a flat price. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information and will update this article when we learn more.
