Fear the Walking Dead: Dead Run is a stylish endless runner with a campaign
I know what you’re thinking. How can an endless runner have a campaign? Well, Fear the Walking Dead: Dead Run manages. The game is a mobile adaptation of the popular television spin-off of The Walking Dead. It already has made a splash over on iOS, but now we’re finally seeing it arrive in the Play Store.
If you’re familiar with the endless runner genre, then you’ll be right at home with Fear the Walking Dead: Dead Run. It’s an offering of the side-scrolling variety, and you’ll be entering the world as your favorite characters from the show. There are more than fifty different weapons littered throughout the ruined LA landscape, but you’ll have to choose your actions carefully. If you fight too much, you’ll soon get overwhelmed by the undead hordes.
Survival mode lets you play as long as you can hack it in an endlessly generating gauntlet of horror. However, the game also offers an interesting campaign mode that puts you right into the story. You’ll be swapping back and forth between characters in cinematic cuts and pans that have the characters interacting with the same dangerous world. This version of the game actually has a story and, therefore, an end.
The game is rendered in stylish gray-scale. Although this is visually appealing, it can at times be a little frustrating. Enemies appear in the background and foreground, and sometimes it’s difficult to determine which are threats and which you can sprint by without harm. This may be a feature rather than a bug, however, because the longer you play, the better you get at judging the difference.
Fear the Walking Dead: Dead Run is available in the Play Store. It’s free to play, but it contains in-app purchases ranging from $0.99 to $9.99. Click the button below to give it a run (you see what I did there?) then let us know what you think in the comments!
