The Expanse season 6: Everything we know about the last season at Amazon Prime
Fan-favorite sci-fi series The Expanse had its final season at Amazon Prime Video. So, what happened in The Expanse season six? And, more importantly, is ther eany chance of a seventh season?
One of the best streaming shows around, The Expanse has traveled a rocky road to get here. Canceled midway through its run at Syfy, it has since been picked up by Amazon.

The Expanse recap: How we got to season 6
The Expanse, based on the novel series by James S.A. Corey, takes place in a future when humans have colonized the entire Solar System. Throughout, we follow various characters belonging to different factions. These include a police officer, politicians, soldiers, and people caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Throughout the past five seasons, the series has included escalating hostilities between Mars and Earth, as well as colonies of humans living on the asteroid belt and various moons.
The main characters of the series are the crew of the Martian gunship the Rocinante and the United Nations politician Chrisjen Avasarala and her entourage.
The events of early seasons have led to a huge expansion of habitable worlds, with new political factions forming. When season five ended, a growing contingent of Belters — historically marginalized peoples — was rallying under the leadership of rebel leader Marco Inaros.
The Expanse season 6 recap
The pieces were scattered at the end of season five. Major cities on Earth had been bombed, and alliances are broken.
Marco Inaros and his insurrection now take center stage. With that comes the story arc of his son Filip.
Filip’s mother is Naomi Nagata, one of the show’s heroes and a member of the crew of the Rocinante. Naomi fled from Marcos when Filip was still a boy and was reunited with her son as Marcos’s prisoner in season five. While Filip stands by his father, it’s clear that he’s conflicted. In season six, Naomi and her crew have to decide where they stand and whether they can stand up to her boy.
As the conflict with Inaros comes to a head (no spoilers, we promise), the series ends on a clear note of closure, with the future of the characters and governments outlined quite clearly, and the main conflicts wrapped up.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for more, despite the series being done at Amazon.
Will there be a season 7 of The Expanse?
As far as we know, The Expanse has wrapped up for good.
The creators have not closed the door to future seasons, though, and there are notably three more books in the series that the show could draw from.
A series being saved twice by streaming services would be a pretty big deal.
Amazon has been clear about season six being the last, but of course Amazon saved The Expanse when it was cancelled at Syfy. Who’s to say the streamer couldn’t save the show again? Or maybe another service could pick it up. Of course, while many shows have been revived on streaming services, it would be pretty noteworthy for The Expanse to be saved twice.
One reason to believe season six was indeed the last is that the next book in the series jumps ahead several decades. The Expanse season seven would likely feel as much like a reboot as a revival, and that would potentially affect the tone and content to such a degree that it would be a hard sell for a new streamer as well as for audiences more invested in the crew of the Rocinante in the immediate aftermath of season six.
But you never know.

The entire series is available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video globally in over 240 countries and territories.
This is the third season to stream exclusively at Amazon after the company picked up the rights to future seasons from Syfy, which cancelled The Expanse after its third season in 2018.
After a fan campaign that included crowdfunding, petitions, and flying a “#SaveTheExpanse” banner over Amazon Studios headquarters, Amazon picked it up, releasing season four in December of 2020.
Who’s involved?
The (surviving) main characters of The Expanse are all back in season six. Cas Anvar, who has played a main character since season one, did not return. Following a string of sexual misconduct allegations, he was removed from the show in season five, his character dying abruptly. This marks a departure from the novels.
