The latest movie adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel Dune got huge accolades from both critics and audiences when the film was released to both theaters and, for 31 days, on the HBO Max streaming service in late October 2021. However, even before the release of the movie, Warner Bros had plans to expand the movie universe with a companion Dune TV series, called Dune: The Sisterhood, on HBO Max.

So what will this Dune TV series be all about, and when will it drop on HBO Max? Here’s everything we know so far about Dune: The Sisterhood. You can sign up for HBO Max now at  the link below:

When will Dune: The Sisterhood debut on HBO Max?

As of this writing, Warner Bros has not announced a target date for the launch of the Dune TV series.

What will the Dune TV series be all about?

Based on the brief description of the Dune TV series when it was first announced back in June 2019, Dune: The Sisterhood will serve as a prequel to the Dune movie adaptation. It will focus on the all-female organization known as the Bene Gesserit. The women who are brought into the group are trained to develop powerful physical and mental abilities. The source of their powers is the spice Melange, which is only found on the planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. The Bene Gesserit try to use their powers to influence the people of power in this universe, so that civilization moves forward on a path that is directed by this group.

Who is writing and directing the series?

Diane Ademu-John is the showrunner and lead writer for Dune: The Sisterhood. She has written for shows like The Originals, Empire, and most recently the Netflix horror mini-series The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Originally, Denis Villeneuve, the director of the 2021 Dune movie adaptation, was also supposed to direct the pilot episode for Dune: The Sisterhood. However, that is no longer the case, most likely because he’s now working to direct the sequel to the Dune movie starting in the summer of 2022. Instead,  Johan Renck, who won an Emmy for his directing work on the HBO mini-series Chernobyl, will direct the first two episodes of the show.

Will any cast members from the Dune movie be in Dune: The Sisterhood?

It’s currently unknown if any of the cast from the Dune film adaptation will reprise their roles for the Dune TV series. In an interview with The Playlist, actor Rebecca Ferguson, who played the Bene Gesserit Lady Jessica in the Dune movie, stated that she has not been asked to participate in the TV show, but would be willing to do so if she’s available for filming. With the sequel to Dune set to start filming in the summer of 2022, she may not have time to appear in the show for more than just a guest or cameo appearance.
