TL;DR
  • Disney Plus has released the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2.
  • The early peek shows the quest to find Baby Yoda’s (aka The Child’s) home.
  • The new season premieres October 30.

After nearly a year of waiting, Disney Plus is finally ready to preview the next season of its most popular show. The streaming service has released the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2, and it says much about where the Star Wars show is headed next. Caution: spoilers are ahead, so you may want to stop reading if you’re determined to keep the story fresh. Meantime. you can sign up for the service at the link below:

The new episodes will have Mando tracking down the home of The Child (aka Baby Yoda), and it’s clear this won’t be easy. Among other challenges, the bounty hunter is expected to deliver his young Force-wielding counterpart to the Jedi — a dilemma when the Mandalorian people have demonized the group as an “order of sorcerers” that fought their founder. Imperial remnants and the usual criminal elements will also pose problems.

Our hero will have allies by his side, including Cara Dune and Greef Karga. There aren’t many recognizable new characters on display (most notably a mysterious Jedi and the cyclops alien Gore Keresh), but figures like Moff Gideon are expected to play an important role. Rumored characters like Boba Fett are nowhere to be seen, at least for now.

The trailer is also a not-so-subtle reminder that The Mandalorian season 2 premieres October 30. A lot is riding on this series. With Marvel TV shows like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier delayed due to the pandemic, Disney Plus doesn’t have as many originals as it expected this fall. It needs The Mandalorian to draw in new subscribers, not to mention keep those who might leave once they’ve exhausted the back catalog of movies and programs.
