Disney Plus ad-based plan begins December 8, prices going way up on other plans
- The Disney Plus subscription service will launch its ad-based plan in the US on December 8 for $7.99 a month.
- The price for the current ad-free plan will go up to $10.99 a month or $109.99 for the yearly plan.
- Prices for bundles with Hulu and ESPN Plus will also be going up.
If you are a loyal Disney Plus subscriber, get ready to either watch a lot of ads or spend more to do away with commercials for the subscription service. Disney announced today that its previously announced ad-based subscription tier will launch on December 8 in the US. The price will be $7.99 a month, which is the current price for the ad-free subscription to the service.
The price for the traditional Disney Plus ad-free plan will be going up on that date, and by a lot. You will need to pay $10.99 monthly for that plan or $109.99 for the annual plan. It might be a good idea to lock down that current $79.99 price for the annual plan before it goes away in a few months.
That’s not all. Disney Plus’ sister service Hulu will see price changes that go into effect even earlier, on October 10. The price for the current ad-based plan goes up from $6.99 to $7.99 a month, while the ad-free plan goes up from $12.99 a month to $14.99 a month. It will join another sister service, ESPN Plus, in raising prices. The sports-based streaming service will go up on August 23, from $6.99 a month to $9.99 a month, or $99.99 for an annual subscription.
Disney Plus and Hulu Plus Live TV bundle prices also going up
The price for the Disney Plus bundle, which adds Hulu and ESPN Plus for an overall lower cost, is also going up. On December 8, you can get Disney Plus and Hulu, both with ads, for $9.99 a month. Adding ESPN Plus to that bundle will see the price go up to $12.99 a month. If you are a current Disney Plus bundle subscriber, you can get the same bundle you have, with the ad-based Hulu but no ads on Disney Plus, for $14.99 a month, or just $1 more than the current subscription. The bundle with no ads on Disney Plus or Hulu will stay the same at $19.99 a month.
Finally, subscribers to the Hulu Plus Live TV service will pay $69.99 a month with ad-based Disney Plus and ESPN Plus included. If you are a current Hulu Plus Live TV subscriber, you can get the service with the ad-based Hulu and ESPN Plus but no ads on Disney Plus for $74.99 a month or without ads on Hulu for $82.99 a month.

In its press release today, Disney said that these different plans and prices will give consumers “ultimate flexibility in choosing an option that suits their needs.” However, it’s also likely to confuse the currently crowded streaming marketplace.
There’s no word on what the pricing for all of these new Disney Plus ad-based plans and bundles will be like outside the US.
