Pixel art platformer Daggerhood available now on Android
Get ready to hop into the action, because Crescent Moon Games’ Daggerhood is officially available on Android devices. It was first released in February on the Nintendo Switch, and you can rest assured that the mobile version is every bit as challenging.
You play as Vincent S. Daggerhood, a thief who was caught and thrown into a cavernous dungeon. Fortunately, he retained his magical dagger, which allows him to teleport across dangerous pits. One false move and it’s back to the start of the level.
Daggerhood features more than 100 levels across five worlds, each with capped off with unique bosses. Sometimes your only option is to run for the finish line, and other times you are forced to fight the bosses head on to continue.
The levels are challenging, and mistakes are heavily punished. Each level has five treasures to collect, as well as a fairy that disappears after a few seconds. Be prepared to run through each level dozens of times to collect them all, and even more if you want to try to improve your best times. This gives the game a lot of replayability.
Touching an enemy or the spikes that litter each level will instantly kill you and restart the level. This isn’t a big deal, since each level is less than a minute, which is perfect for mobile devices. If this sounds too challenging, the developers have recently added an easy mode that allows you to take three hits. You’ll have to live with that shame, though.
As you progress, new mechanics are revealed. These include portals that warp your dagger to new locations and a bean that reverses gravity, among others. These serve to keep things interesting and challenging as you master the basic mechanics.
