How to connect the Apple Watch to Peloton
First, if you haven’t yet installed the Peloton app on your iPhone or Apple Watch, download it now by tapping the button below. You’ll need it to forge a connection between your Peloton, iPhone, and the Apple Watch.
Previously, the Apple Watch was only compatible with the Bike Plus, but a recent update rolled out by Peloton brought support for the Tread and original Bike, too. The company has also made the pairing process with the Apple Watch a lot less complicated.
How to pair an Apple Watch with Peloton
- Once you’ve downloaded and installed the Peloton app, open it on your Apple Watch.
- In the Peloton app, tap More > Apple Watch > Set Up > Connect to Health App. This will open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Switch over to your iPhone, and in the Health app, tap Turn On All. This will give Peloton full access to your Apple Health data. You can also get to this page manually by heading to Settings > Privacy > Apps > Peloton > Turn On All.
- Finally, open the Peloton app on your Apple Watch, and select Allow when it requests notification permissions.
Initiate a workout on your Bike or Tread, or from the Peloton app on your iPhone. If all’s well, you’ll see a notification on your Apple Watch to begin monitoring your workout. Notably, according to Peloton, you cannot start a workout directly from the Apple Watch app. You can also open the Peloton app on your Apple Watch to follow the live progress of your workout.

What can you do with Peloton on the Apple Watch?
The Apple Watch will track your heart rate and allow Peloton to calculate your endurance score. The latter is Peloton’s performance metric that lets users evaluate and equate their workouts, be it cycling or strength training.
You can also use the Apple Watch to keep track of your live workout metrics. This includes your pace, distance, calories, and heart rate. Of course, the benefit of using the Apple Watch with Peloton equipment is closing out your activity rings, too.
Bear in mind that some features aren’t yet supported. For now, the Apple Watch Peloton app remains a companion app. This means you won’t be able to view GPS data, the leaderboard, or follow friends on the Here Now leaderboard from the Apple Watch app.
