After a short delay, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has taken to Twitter to announce that the CyanogenMod 12S update for the OnePlus One has finally passed certification. The update should begin rolling out to handsets sometime this week, perhaps even today.

.@jorgepenteado CM12s just passed certification today. Thanks for the patience, expect rollout in the next few days.

Originally, the Android 5.0.2 based CyanogenMod 12S update missed the initial March 30th deadline for certification on the OnePlus One. Apparently, Cyanogen had to redo the certification submission following the rollout of a new test suite, which seems to have taken a little while longer than expected. The whole incident lead Pei to suggest that the company will be more cautious about giving out ETAs for updates in the future.

Lesson learned, Pei has not given an exact date for the CM12S update, instead he has only suggested that today is quite likely, but that the rollout may take place a little later in the week.

We’ve learned it’s irresponsible to give ETA’s when we’re not sure. Let’s do probabilities (rollout start): today 75%, Tue 15%, Wed 10%

Recently, there has been increasing pressure to finalize the update to CM12S, as last week OnePlus made its new Oxygen operating system available for download. OxygenOS is promising new features and “more meaningful updates” for the OnePlus One in the future, so we will have to wait and see what this means for long term CM support.

Keep an eye out for the CM12S update at some point this week.
