We already knew that the new Google Pixel phones contain a best in class camera, and it seems that the hardware is rather well suited to top-notch 4K video capture as well. Filmmaker Matteo Bertoli has taken the Pixel out and about through Park City and downtown Salt Lake City to capture some stunning looking cinematic 4K footage.

According to Bertoli, the Google Pixel offers up good dynamic range and plenty of detail, and the software that Google provides out of the box “is not bad at all”. Although different parts of the short film were recorded either with the native camera app or Filmic Pro. The footage was recorded with the aid of a tripod, a Rhino slider, and a Shoulderpod S1, but without the use of additional lenses or any other trickery.

I should note that this isn’t raw 4K footage from the Google Pixel camera. Bertoli has made use of his editing skills in FCPX and graded the film in DaVinci Resolve to help make the video looks its best. Still, it’s impressive to see what can be accomplished with a smartphone camera these days and the result really does speak for itself. So, you should certainly check out the full video below.
