Chrome on Googlebooks doesn't support multiple profiles yet, but there's good news
Oct 12, 2026 — 9:17 AM ET

- Google has confirmed that Chrome on Googlebooks will gain support for multiple profiles in a future update.
- This comes a few days after we discovered that Chrome on the new platform doesn’t let you switch to a different user profile.
- There’s no word on a release window for this update, though.
The Android Authority team has spent plenty of time with Googlebooks following the platform’s launch earlier this month. Unfortunately, one notable downgrade compared to Chromebooks is that the Chrome browser doesn’t support multiple user profiles.
Fortunately, Google employee Mishaal Rahman has confirmed on Reddit that Chrome for Googlebooks will support multiple profiles:
Thanks for the feedback! The team is working on updates to Chrome on Googlebook OS. For instance, while Chrome on Googlebook OS does not currently support multiple profiles, this will come in a future update.
There’s no word on a release timeline for this feature, but we’re just glad Google is working on a solution in the first place. This omission was particularly perplexing in light of Chrome on Chrome OS having this feature. In fact, even Chrome on iOS lets you easily switch between Google profiles.
This isn’t the only encouraging news for Googlebooks in the last couple of days. Some Samsung owners found out the hard way that their phones didn’t support cross-device features on the new laptops. Google noted at the time that these phones would get an update in the “coming weeks.” Thankfully, it turns out that this update is already arriving on Galaxy phones.
