The rugged Caterpillar Cat S31 and S41 phones are now on sale in the US

The new Caterpillar Cat S31 and Cat S41 have Android 7.0 Nougat, large batteries, a rugged design, water resistance and mediocre specs.

Update (12/13/17): The Caterpillar Cat S31 and S41 smartphone are now on sale in the United States. The S31 will run you $329.99 and the slightly higher-end S41 comes in at $449.99. You can grab them from Cat’s website with a one year warranty. As a reminder, the devices are built for the worksite with rugged designs and water resistance. 

The specs won’t blow you away, but if you’re consistently breaking your phones, one of these might be for you.

Original article (9/1/17): The Caterpillar brand is announcing two new, and extremely rugged, Android smartphones today as part of the IFA 2017 trade show in Berlin. The Cat S41 and S31 are the first such smartphones from the company that have Android 7.0 Nougat installed out of the box.

The Cat S31 meets the current IP86 rugged specifications, which means it can keep working even if it falls from 1.8 meters down to concrete, or if it is in 1.2 meters of water for up to 35 minutes. The 4.7-inch phone can also work if a person has a wet finger, or if with gloved hands. Inside it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. It also has an 8 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front facing camera and a large 4,000 mAh battery. It will go on sale later this year in Europe for  €329.

It has a 5-inch Full HD “Super Bright” display with Gorilla Glass 5, and can also work with wet or gloved fingers. Inside it has a MediaTek Helio P20 processor, along with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a 13 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front facing camera. Finally, it has a huge 5,000 mAh battery that’s so big, it can even be used to power up other devices with its Battery Share feature. The Cat S41 is now available to purchase in Europe for €449.
