Reliance Jio has emerged as one of the most popular telecom operators in India. Launched in 2016, the operator has been aggressive in their approach towards plans and customer acquisition.

It would be fair to say that Reliance Jio has single handedly changed the face of telecom plans across prepaid and postpaid circles in India. Depending on your use case, there’s a number of Jio recharge plans that cater to data-heavy users or those looking for longer validity and cheaper rates. There are also a number of JioPhone plans that cater specifically to users of the company’s low-cost phone.

Here’s everything you need to know about the current Reliance Jio plans!

Budget Jio plans

Not everyone needs a healthy data allowance for their smartphones. If you are using a Jio SIM card as a backup or perhaps just to make phone calls, a basic, affordable Jio plan makes the most sense for you. The entry-level Jio plan is priced at 98 rupees for a month and gives you access to unlimited voice calls and 300 SMS messages every month. You also get 2GB of data for when you need to get online or perhaps to connect over Whatsapp.

Best data and benefits balance

Jio’s 1.5 gigabyte-a-day pack is perhaps the best value if you need a decent amount of data for streaming music or video while on the go. Once you exhaust that 1.5GB, you still get unlimited access but will be throttled down to 64Kbps. Good enough for texting apps like Whatsapp but not much else. Priced at 149 rupees for 28 days, this great Jio recharge plan gives you unlimited voice calls as well as 100 messages a day.

Jio Phone Monthly Plans

If you are willing to commit to longer durations, there are more savings to be had. For example, 399 rupees gets you 84 days of access while saving you 48 rupees compared to a monthly top up cycle.

What if I want more data?

You’ve got a long commute and you like to catch up on Netflix on the go. Perhaps you use your phone as a hotspot and need a lot of data. We get it. Jio has a range of plans offering between two and five gigabytes of data a day. For most users, two gigabytes a day will suffice. The 2GB Reliance Jio plan starts at 198 rupees for 28 days and includes benefits like unlimited calls, 100 text messages per day and of course, two gigabytes of data every day.

In case you want even more data, we’ve listed out the options above.

Jio long term validity plans

Long term validity plans occupy a somewhat unique position in Jio’s plans portfolio. They don’t really offer great value. In fact, the overall per-day data allowance, less than a gigabyte, is less than even the basic plans. These Reliance Jio plans only make sense when you know you won’t be able to top up your phone in time or if you simply want to retain a number that will be used intermittently.

The basic long term validity plan, in this case, starts at 999 rupees and offers 90 days of validity. The total data available is 60 gigabytes which makes it well under a gigabyte a day. You do get unlimited voice minutes and 100 text messages a day. Compare this with the standard 149 rupee plan that offers 1.5GB of data a day and it doesn’t fare too well. The monthly pack would also total to about 447 rupees for three months compares to 999 rupees that you would pay here. Suffice to say that you are paying for the convenience of not having to recharge your phone every day.

What are the best plans for JioPhone users?

The JioPhone is a pretty basic device. Sure, it has some smarts like functional Whatsapp and even basic Google services, but the phone definitely doesn’t need oodles of data. The base plan for JioPhone users offers one gigabyte of data every month along with unlimited calls and 50 messages in total. This plan is priced at 49 rupees.

Most users would be well served by stepping up to the next plan which has a lot more to offer for a little more money. Priced at 99 rupees, the plan gives users 500MB of data every day for a total of 14GB. Combined with unlimited calls and 300 text messages a month, this Reliance JioPhone plan strikes the best balance between price and value.

Jio Phone Monthly Plans

Jio has long term plans for JioPhone users as well, but they don’t offer much of an advantage over a monthly top up. Priced at 297 rupees, the plan offers 500 megabytes of data a day, unlimited phone calls and 300 total text messages. These benefits are exactly the same as the standard 99 rupees monthly top up. Go for this only if you want to avoid the hassle of having to top up your phone every month.

Final thoughts

Like most operators, Jio offers a wide range of prepaid and postpaid plans that should suit all manner of users. Be it users who live on data or someone who just needs to make phone calls, there’s something here for everyone with Reliance Jio’s prepaid and postpaid plans.

For most users, the standard 149 rupees Jio plan will give you the best balance between price and benefits. A daily 1.5GB data allowance is sufficient for most users. Users also get unlimited calls and a healthy text message allowance.

For JioPhone users, the mid-range 99 rupee plan offers the best bang for the buck. Unlimited calls, 300 text messages and 500MB for the daily data allowance is sufficient for most JioPhone users.
