The best kids movies on Hulu:
Editor’s note: We will update this list of the best kids movies on Hulu regularly as the platform rotates its library or we find something better.
The Iron Giant
This 1999 movie was a flop at the box office, but it has since become a truly classic animated film. It’s certainly one of the best kids movies on Hulu. Set in the 1050s, it tells the story of a young boy who discovers a huge metal alien man who crash-landed on Earth. The boy and alien become friends, and later the boy has to help his new metal buddy escape from government forces that want to destroy it. This movie taps into many young kids’ fantasies of encountering giant robot beings, but with some lessons on friendship as well.
Trolls World Tour
The Trolls take you on a new adventure where Queen Poppy and Branch find out there are all types of different trolls, with all different types of musical interests. Queen Barb and King Thrash want to destroy all other music types, so Poppy and Branch set out on a quest to unify other trolls to defend themselves against the new threat. This is a very entertaining movie for the little ones, and it’s one of the best kids movies on Hulu.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold
Dora the Explorer changed a whole generation of TV enthusiasts. The days of yelling answers at the TV and going through a backpack that seems to fit everything in it are back. This time in live action!
This time she is trying to save her parents and discover the mysteries behind the Inca civilization. It’s bound to be a wild adventure, and we are sure the little ones will love it. This is definitely one of the best kids movies on Hulu.
We can’t get enough of Peter Pan, and in this 2015 rendition of the classic story, things are as interesting as ever. Peter is an orphan who finds his way into Neverland. The land is full of adventures, danger, and an unfamiliar pirate named Blackbeard who quickly becomes Pan’s worst enemy as he finds his true calling as a hero.
Everest is a lost young yeti very far from home. Young adventurers Yi, Jin, and Peng find him on their roof and decide to help him reunite with his family. But first, they must cross through China to get to Everest’s home, which is bound to be a fun and crazy adventure. This journey proves to be a great learning experience for everyone, though, as this yeti also helps the kids truly find themselves.
Who would have thought that a movie about a Scottish-sounding ogre would be a huge hit? Yet, that is what happened with this 2001 animated hit that spawned several sequels and even a spin-off. Mike Myers is perfect as the voice of Shrek, a creature who only wants to be left alone in his swamp home. However, a ton of fairy tale-inspired characters have been exiled to his swamp by Lord Farquaad. He wants them gone, but he has to get rid of the evil Lord Farquaad, Shrek has to rely on a reluctant partner, Donkey (also voiced perfectly by Eddie Murphy) to take on the evil lord, and also rescue the imprisoned Princess Fiona,
This one looks way better in the trailers than it actually is. Critics weren’t too kind to this film, and I’ll be honest — it’s really more for kids than families. My ten-year-old daughter loves it, but watching it once was more than enough for me. The plot is also a little dark for children that have a sick parent, as basically the mom ends up with an illness that requires her to go away for most of the movie (presumably cancer).
As for what it’s about? In short, a young girl and her mom love to make-believe play about a park the girl calls Wonder Park. Once her mom goes away, she ends up giving up her pretend park obsession, forcing herself to grow up a little too early. Long story short, eventually she finds out the park is real and is in serious trouble.
It has a more serious tone, but it’s still one of the best kids movies on Hulu.
The Addams Family
The Addams move to suburban New Jersey, where their eccentric, creepy, and awesome family doesn’t quite fit in. On top of that, a local reality TV host wants to get rid of them in order to improve home sales in the neighborhood. These guys are always getting into adventures and trouble, so it’s definitely one of the best kids movies on Hulu. And it’s one the kids will love watching too!
Daphne & Velma
Scooby and the gang are all great, but Daphne and Velma have a past full of investigation and mystery. This movie fills you in on their past, when they were investigating weird happenings at their high school. The best students are becoming zombie-like creatures, so they must find out what’s the real source of the problem. This is one of the best kids movies on Hulu if you love the dynamic due these two girls make.
The Princess Bride
This 1987 movie is practically made for both kids and their parents to enjoy. Indeed, its framing device is of an old grandfather reading this fantasy tale to his young grandson so he can go to sleep. The 1987 movie, directed by Rob Reiner, has great action, romance, tons of humor for both kids and adults, and is just a great tale well told. It’s is a must-watch if you are looking for the best kids movies on Hulu.
