Z the worker ant (Woody Allen) immediately falls in love when he spies Bala (Sharon Stone), the colony’s princess. Mesmerized, he wants to see her again, but the only way is to swap places with his soldier friend Weaver (Sylvester Stallone) and join the ant army. From there, things only get more hectic. Whether this movie is better or worse than the very similar Disney Bug’s Life is a matter of debate, but it’s certainly one of the best kids movies on Hulu.
2. Chicken Run
Ginger (Julia Sawalha) and the other chickens live in a concentration camp complete with barbed wire and patrolling dogs. It’s really Tweedy’s farm, where chickens who don’t produce eggs get slaughtered. Eventually, Mrs. Tweedy starts toying with the idea of selling chicken pies instead of eggs. With their lives on the line, the chickens hatch a plan to escape before they end up the farmers oven.
3. Sherlock Gnomes
Garden gnomes start disappearing at Gnomeo and Juliet’s garden, so they get help from renown detective Sherlock Gnomes. He is a sworn protector of all garden gnomes in London, so he won’t rest until this crime is solved. As you can expect, this takes the group in a wild adventure that makes it one of the best kids movies on Hulu.
Yeti, Sasquatch, Big Foot, and the abominable snowman. Call it what you will, but this myth spreads through different corners of the earth as one of the most popular myths across different cultures. But what if they exist and think we are the mythical creature? This scenario comes to life in the comic animated film Smallfoot. As you can imagine, we would be the small footed creatures. But the truth has been a mystery for generations. Click the button below to uncover it.
Everest is a lost young yeti very far from home. Young adventurers Yi, Jin, and Peng find him on their roof and decide to help him reunite with his family. But first they most cross through China to get to Everest’s home, which is bound to be a fun and crazy adventure. This journey proves to be a great learning experience to everyone, though, as this yeti also helps the kids truly find themselves.
His life as a pet wasn’t nearly as exciting as the adventures Rango comes across after he gets stranded in the Mojave dessert of Nevada. After meeting some interesting creatures, he arrives at the old west town of Dirt. This is where he works hard to become the hero he claims to be. And challenges are plentiful, so you are in for some action.
7. Wonder Park
This one looks way better in the trailers than it actually is. Critics weren’t too kind to this film, and I’ll be honest — it’s really more for kids than families. My ten-year-old daughter loves it, but watching it once was more than enough for me. The plot is also a little dark for children that have a sick parent, as basically the mom ends up with an illness that requires her to go away for most of the movie (presumably cancer).
As for what it’s about? In short, a young girl and her mom love to make-believe play about a park the girl calls Wonder Park. Once her mom goes away, she ends up giving up her pretend park obsession, forcing herself to grow up a little too early. Long story short, eventually she finds out the park is real and is in serious trouble.
It has a more serious tone, but it’s still one of the best kids movies on Hulu.
8. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
Spirit (Matt Damon) is the leader of a Kiger Mustang herd who’s captured and sent to a US cavalry post during the Indian Wars. The Colonel (James Cromwell) wants Spirit to be his tamed mount, but the horse refuses. The Colonel tries to shoot Spirit, only to be thwarted by Little Creek (Daniel Studi), a captured Lakota Native American. The two prisoners escape and flee to Little Creek’s village, but the Colonel’s cavalry isn’t far behind.
9. The Prince of Egypt
This is one of the best kids movies on Hulu for religious families and culturally curious kids. Based on the life of Moses as written in the Book of Exodus, the Prince of Egypt begins with Yocheven placing her infant son in a basket and sending it down the river. The baby Moses (Val Kilmer) is found and raised by the Egyptian King Seti (Patrick Stewart) and Queen Tuya (Helen Mirren), who hide his true Hebrew origins.
After an accident with an Egyptian guard, Moses flees into the desert, and he takes up the life of a shepherd. Eventually a certain burning bush sets him on a quest, kicking of a journey that will change the world.
Coraline is based on a Neil Gaiman novel of the same name. This stop-motion animation is a dark horror film directed by none other than Henry Selick, famous for directing movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas. The combination of a great fantasy story and a twisted mind make for one of the best Netflix animated movies you can find.
Coraline takes you through the story of an 11-year old girl who believes her new home in Oregon won’t feed her curious soul. She soon finds there is plenty of adventure to be had, as she stumbles into odd passageways and parallel universes. It’s is a must-watch if you are looking for the best kids movies on Hulu.
