It can be a good idea to have a smartphone with you while driving for GPS navigation, emergency calls, and so forth. But it isn’t a good idea to have your phone in your hand while driving, putting yourself and others at risk. Thankfully, there is a solution to increase your safety on the road while still being able to use your phone — a car phone holder.
Car phone holders allow you to position your device on the dashboard for easy access where your eyes aren’t far from the road. Then you can safely navigate through your GPS or contact numbers.
Picking a car mount is the hard part. With so many to choose from, it’s hard to know which one is right for you. Below, we’ll help you out with our list of the best car phone holders for your money.
Best car phone holders and mounts
Editor’s note: We’ll be updating this list of the best waterproof phones regularly as new devices launch.
1. WizGear Magnetic Car Phone Holder
If you want a phone car holder that is simple to install inside any car, this small magnetic car holder from WizGear is for you.
First, simply attach the rubber base to one of your air vents inside your car. Then, you can either place the included magnetic metal plate in your phone’s case between the cover and the phone, or you can stick on the round magnet metal plate on your phone. Next, place the phone on the WizGear phone car mount and it will be held in place.
The WizGear stays in place even if you encounter bumps or other vibrations while driving. You can also rotate the phone on the magnetic holder to get the best view — it’s brilliant. We previously recommended the WizGear two-pack which sold for $11.99 on Amazon, but it’s a little trickier to get hold of now. You can find it standalone for $8.49 at the button below.
2. iOttie One Touch 4 Dash and Windshield Car Phone Mount
iOttie is one of the best car phone holder makers, and its One Touch 4 Dashboard and Windshield Phone Mount is its most popular product. It’s easy to see why: the design allows for one-handed mounting in the secure holder and a full range of movement.
It has a sturdy suction cup that can be placed on the car’s inside windshield, or you can use the included sticky pad to place the mount on the dashboard. Further, the mount’s telescopic arm lets you find the perfect position for your phone while driving.
3. iOttie One Touch Wireless Charging Car Phone Mount
Here’s another phone car mount from iOttie. It has the same basic design as the One Touch 4 Dashboard and Windshield Phone Mount. However, there’s one big addition: you can also charge your phone with this mount if the phone supports the Qi-based wireless charging platform.
After you mount the holder on your dashboard or your windshield, just connect the mount with the included charger cable to your car charging port. Then, place your Qi wireless charging phone in the mount, and it will start recharging its battery inside the mount. It also supports fast charging if your phone also supports that more advanced Qi hardware.
4. Kenu Airframe Wireless vent
The Kenu Airframe Wireless supports Qi wireless charging like the option above, only this option is for vents. It offers up to 10W wireless fast charging and can also charge a second device (via cable) thanks to an additional 2.4A USB port.
The Kenu Airframe Wireless features spring-loaded grips to hold your smartphone securely in place and supports 360 degrees of motion. It isn’t cheap and you’re mostly paying for the wireless charging functionality. If your phone doesn’t support that, it won’t be for you, but if it does, this is one of the best car phone holders you can get.
5. Scosche MagicMount
This inexpensive car phone holder offers a quick, easy, and cheap. Similar to WizGear holder at the top of our list, the Scosche MagicMount also works via magnets.
A magnetic pad attaches to the inside your phone case, allowing your phone to stick to the mount when pressed against it. It’s a neat solution, but the trade-off here is that you’ll have to have to use a smartphone case in order to use this product.
Once you’ve placed your phone on the magnetized to the pad, you’re free to move it with 4-axis, 360-degree motion thanks to its dash-mounted stand. It’s slightly pricier than the WizGear, but if you want the flexibility of dash mounting rather than vent mounting, this is a great option.
6. Beam Electronics Phone Car Mount
Here’s another car phone holder that’s made to attach to the vehicle’s air vent. However, the Beam Electronics Phone Car Mount keeps the phone in place with physical plastic arms. Once you assemble the mount and place it on the air vent, just press a button on the back to expand the mount’s sides.
It supports phones from 1.9 inches wide to 3.7 inches wide. Close the mount after you place your smartphone inside the frame, and it should work even with a lot of bumps and impacts on the road. It can also rotate 360 degrees thanks to its pivot design.
These are our top car phone holder recommendations. We’ll update this post with new models once they launch.
