Announced at IFA, Audio-Technica introduced the Sound Reality ATH-CKR7TW, the company’s first pair of true wireless earbuds. The earbuds support the high-quality aptX Bluetooth codec along with SBC and AAC, pleasing those whose phone manufacturers ditched the headphone jack.

Internally, the Audio-Technica Sound Reality truly wireless earbuds sport an integrated DAC and amplifier (AK4375 from AKM), which is impressive given that combined they weigh just eight grams.

Each earbud houses an 11mm “diamond-like carbon coated diaphragm” which minimizes weight while maintaining the drivers’ rigidity. This material reduces frequency distortion during music playback. Separation of the acoustic and electronic components also allows unmitigated airflow from the drivers to your ear, resulting in more accurate sound reproduction.

As with all true wireless earphones, the carrying case doubles as a charging case, affording the Sound Reality nine additional hours of playback. This gives the earbuds a total of 15 hours of constant playback, which is more than enough to cover a week’s worth of commuting.

Users can take calls via the omnidirectional condenser microphone. And controls are built into the earbud, listeners can easily skip tracks, adjust volume levels, and take hands-free calls.

The Audio-Technica Sound Reality include an array of ear tips, a USB charging cable, and a charging case. They will be available in black and gray and retail for $249 this fall.
