TL;DR
  • YouTube is expanding its conversational AI-powered search tool to a new platform.
  • You’ll now be able to use “Ask YouTube” on the mobile app.
  • Viewers will soon be able to use Ask YouTube directly from the watch page while watching Shorts and live streams.

Back in April, YouTube began testing a new conversational search tool called “Ask YouTube.” The company later made it official, announcing the AI-powered feature during Google I/O. Ask YouTube has been available on the web and on TV, but now it’s expanding to a new platform.

In a blog post, YouTube announced that you’ll now be able to use its conversational search tool on mobile. Similar to the web and TV apps, this rollout is for users based in the US. However, it’s noted in Google’s support documentation that the feature is not currently available for supervised kid accounts. You also won’t find the tool in the YouTube Kids app, but the company has not closed the door on a future release.

To use Ask YouTube, you’ll need to tap on Search (the magnifying glass icon) at the top of the screen. There will be a new “Ask” option for you to tap on. After that, you can begin typing in your question or prompt to get a response. You’ll be able to adjust responses or follow them up to dive deeper into a topic.

Along with this rollout, YouTube is also expanding Ask YouTube on the watch page. No exact date is given, but you’ll soon be able to use Ask YouTube directly from the watch page while watching Shorts and live streams.
