Back at the beginning of Google I/O, the Android team revealed that they wanted their users’ help to give Android N its proper name. The company launched a naming page where users could submit their own suggestions. It remains unclear whether the company will be choosing the name for the latest version of the OS based on which suggestion appeared the most or if the devs will be simply cherry picking from the submitted responses. However, if you go to the naming page now, you’ll see you can no longer submit a name.

Android has announced via Twitter that the new name for Android N will be unveiled in the next few weeks. This announcement is accompanied by a video one John Smith, CEO of the fictional company Professional Naming Incorporated, explaining the different kinds of people who are capable of naming things in a Michael Scott-esque ramble devoid of content. A “few weeks” is a vague timeline, but we can expect to finally learn Android N’s name sometime around the end of June or early July.

Thanks for your submissions. We’ll reveal the new name in a few weeks! #NameAndroidNhttps://t.co/qLtDZJNe9y

No clues yet on what the leading choice for the name is. At Google I/O, devs revealed that they were reluctant to name the version Namey McNameface (although team members working in Google’s language projects had no such qualms when they named the world’s most powerful English parser Parsey McParseface), so that one’s at least off the table. Historically Android versions have been named after dessert foods, but many of the suggestions displayed on the naming page veer from this trope. We see entries such as Noodles and Naan, for instance.

What do you think Android N will eventually end up getting named? My money is on Nougat.
