Pixel users report Bluetooth volume control issues with Android 17 QPR1

As is often the case around significant OS updates, Pixel users have been reporting all kinds of issues since Android 17 QPR1 started rolling out. We’ve seen users complain about problems with performance, touch detection, reception, and then some. Today, we’ve seen some reports that Pixel owners are having trouble with volume control.

Reddit user KaneNova posted on the Google Pixel subreddit today saying that since downloading the September update on their Pixel 10, absolute volume, which syncs volume levels on Bluetooth headphones and the device they’re streaming audio from, has stopped working.

When absolute volume is active, adjusting volume on either your phone or your headphones will also adjust volume on the other. Without absolute volume, each has its own discrete volume setting, which can lead to frustrations like your earbuds sounding quiet despite the volume slider on your phone being at its max.

Other users on the thread report absolute volume working intermittently, and that disconnecting and reconnecting the affected audio device can sometimes restore absolute volume control.

I haven’t personally experienced this issue on Android 17 QPR1, but I’ve also managed to dodge all the other problems that have been reported since the September update.
