TL;DR
  • Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 is out now for Pixel 6a through Pixel 11 devices.
  • Fixes target a battery drain problem with Flip to Shh and issues with HTTPS downloads.
  • The Face Unlock re-enrollment problem for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold continues.

Pixel 11 owners may still be waiting for their Android 17 QPR1 updates, but Google’s development efforts keeping pushing forward, churning out new builds of both the QPR2 and QPR3 Betas. Tersters first got their hands on Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 two weeks ago, followed shortly thereafter by the special Beta 6.1 release for Pixel 11 models. Now that train is pulling into the next station, with the release of Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7.

Google shares that Android 17 QPR2 Beta 7 is available for Pixel 6a and newer devices, and unlike Beta 6, we’re including the Pixel 11 series this time around.

According to the notes, there are two main bugfixes arriving with today’s release:

  • Excessive battery drain during idle states when Flip to Shh prevents the device from entering deep sleep. (Issue #560036427, Issue #569079944)
  • HTTPS downloads fail immediately when initiated through the system DownloadManager. (Issue #562833711)

Google also repeats the same warning it shared with Beta 6.1, nothing that Pixel 11 Pro Fold owners may need to re-enroll in Face Unlock.

Considering we’re on Beta 7 by now, we wouldn’t expect a ton of big changes in this release, and indeed, quickly looking over the build, nothing’s immediately jumping out at us but these fixes. If we do manage to spot anything interesting, though, we’ll be sure to let you know.

If you’ve got a Pixel phone and are interested in trying out Google’s upcoming software yourself, go ahead and make sure you’ve got all your critical files backed up, and then swing on over to register for Google’s Android Beta for Pixel program.
