Android 17 QPR1 giving you grief? Survey shows you're not alone

Since Android 17 QPR1 started rolling out earlier this month, we’ve been clocking a lot of user reports saying the update is causing issues on Pixel phones. Look around forums and social media, and you’ll find someone saying that the September update has messed up any given part of their Pixel experience.

We’ve been running a poll for the past couple of weeks asking our Pixel-owning readers whether they’ve had new problems since QPR1 hit their phones. More than two-thirds of respondents said that new problems have been cropping up since they installed the September update.

There were poll options for a variety of different problems: issues with performance, connectivity, display, UI, and a catch-all option for other miscellaneous issues.

To be clear, the most popular single response was that Android 17 QPR1 hasn’t caused any new issues — nearly a third of all respondents picked that option. Still, that leaves about 68% of the vote to split between the various affirmative responses.

The biggest share of readers who’ve had new problems — about 19% — say performance has taken a hit. After that, 16% report “unexpected UI behavior,” while 14% say they’re having “new display glitches.” Just over 11% indicated they’re having new connectivity trouble since installing QPR1. About 7% said they’re having new problems, but not any of the ones listed above.

The poll shows that a significant portion of Pixel users — nearly 1,000 of 1,458 readers who have responded to our poll to date — are indeed experiencing issues that they attribute to the latest update. That doesn’t necessarily mean that two-thirds of Pixel users generally are having problems, though. Anecdotally, my Pixel 9 Pro has been totally fine since updating, and some commenters on Android Authority report smooth sailing, as well.
