Good news for carsick passengers: Android Motion Assist is rolling out to more devices

Motion sickness is a very common condition. While some people are more susceptible to it than others, enough motion can get anyone feeling a little green. Google recently released a new feature for Pixel owners called Motion Assist to help combat motion sickness. Now, that feature is spreading to more Android devices.

According to Google’s Mishaal Rahman, Android’s Motion Assist feature is now rolling out beyond Pixel phones. So, if you’re a passenger in a moving vehicle, you can now turn this feature on to help reduce the likelihood of getting motion sick. The feature requires Android 17 or higher to render the dots across all system surfaces.

Motion Assist works by visually displaying subtle dots at the edge of your screen. Using the motion sensors in your phone, these dots move in real time, matching vehicle turns, speeds up, or brakes. This helps to synchronize what your eyes see and your body feels, making phone usage more comfortable during travel.

To use Motion Assist, you’ll first have to turn it on. As Google explains in its support documentation, you’ll need to open Settings > tap your profile > All services > Motion Assist, found under Personal and device safety. You can set it up so that the feature turns on automatically when motion is detected. A Quick Settings tile can also be set up by going to the Motion Assist settings page and tapping Add tile to Quick Settings.
