Amazon officially announced today that the fourth annual Amazon Prime Day (and-a-half) will happen on July 16 starting at 3:00 P.M. EST. The date and extended length of this year’s event line up with the rumors floating around the internet for the past few days.

Amazon Prime Day is one of the largest sales the site runs all year and usually has even better discounts than Black Friday. However, the quantities are usually limited and there’s a lot of waiting around for the deal you want to start.

In other words, Prime Day involves a little work but that work can pay off with some incredibly steep discounts.

This year, Amazon has what it calls a Prime Day Guide which gives Prime Day newbies some tips on how to make the most of the 36-hours-long event. One of the best tips on offer there is to start adding items you want to your wish list now. If you have the Amazon app on your phone, if and when those items go on sale for Prime Day your phone will notify you. This takes a good amount of the work off your plate and is a highly-recommended method!

There’s also an extremely easy way to save $5 on your Prime Day order that totals over $25: just install the Amazon Assistant browser extension and use it to place your order. This will help you find the best deals and net you a Prime Day discount, so it’s a win-win. Even if you don’t like the extension, download and install it anyway and then just remove it after Prime Day is over. However, keep in mind that the $5 offer only works for people who haven’t used the extension before.

Finally, there are a few deals that are live right now that are pretty good, including the Amazon Echo Show for only $130. Click here to see the other deals on offer for the pre-Prime Day celebrations.

Remember that if you want to buy the many, many discounted items during Amazon Prime Day, you will need to become a Prime member. It currently costs $12.99 a month or $119 a year and offers a ton of benefits, including free two-day delivery on millions of items, access to Amazon Prime Video movies and TV shows and more.
