  • Amazon has launched the Echo Show 16 in the US, featuring a nanomatte display option, ten powerful speakers, and Fire TV support.
  • The company also announced its first-ever Alexa-powered photo frame, available in standard, Walnut, or Birch wood options.
  • While the Alexa Photo Frame will be available as early as next week, the Echo Show 16 may not be available until the second half of December.

Amazon has historically sold smart displays in multiple sizes, ranging from the Echo Show 5 to the Echo Show 15 and the significantly larger Echo Show 21. These Alexa-powered displays handle all the traditional smart home tasks you’d expect, and some even include built-in Fire TV. Amazon is adding a new 16-inch option to this segment, along with its first-ever Alexa-enabled photo frame.

Amazon says the Echo Show 16 is its most powerful smart display yet, featuring a 16-inch screen, available in standard and Nanomatte versions, with the latter adding an anti-glare coating similar to the recently released Alexa Tablet 12 Pro. You can wall-mount it or place it on a table or counter with an adjustable stand, and Amazon lets you choose either option at the time of purchase.

The smart display includes a 13MP camera with night vision support, offering the widest field of view in any Echo Show model yet. This camera also upgrades the onboard Visual ID tech, which can now detect faces from up to 17 feet away. It includes a hardware key to enable or disable microphone and camera access, which is useful for privacy.

Amazon says the Echo Show 16 works with the freshly announced Alexa Home Map, which creates a 3D map of your home or property and shows where each connected smart device is located.

Users can control each device directly from the map view using this one-of-a-kind smart home feature. Alexa Home Map will be available in preview later this year via the Alexa Home Map app on iOS, as well as the Ring and Alexa apps.

With the Fire TV experience baked into the Echo Show 16, Amazon has equipped the smart display with eight custom microwoofers and two microtweeters, so it should be loud enough to fill a decently sized room. It also includes an Alexa voice remote.

The standard Echo Show 16 retails for $499.99, while the Nanomatte version costs $569.99. Both are available for pre-order right now, though shipments won’t start until the second half of December. Amazon is offering a $100 pre-order discount to make the wait a bit more bearable.

Amazon’s Alexa Photo Frame, on the other hand, has a smaller 10.1-inch screen and serves a completely different purpose. Amazon says it can integrate with Amazon Photos and use Alexa to identify and show relevant photos.

It can also automatically switch between day and night modes, thanks to built-in light sensing tech. Other features include searching for a photo with Alexa voice search and adding voice notes to your photos for added personalization.

Customers can get the Alexa Photo Frame in a standard black version for $199.99, while Walnut and Birch wood-based options cost $229. Unlike the Echo Show 16, however, Amazon estimates the Alexa Photo Frame will ship as soon as next week.
