YouTube now lets you buy concert tickets while watching music videos

YouTube and Ticketmaster are teaming up to making purchasing concert tickets even more convenient. Here's how the new feature works.

If you’ve ever been watching a music video and thought “I’d love to see them live”, YouTube has your back. The streaming giant is now rolling out a “Tickets” widget. It can be found underneath a music video’s description on desktop or right under the video in the mobile app. It’ll list upcoming show dates, times, locations, and ticket information for hundreds of artists on tour right now. The show closest to your location will be listed first regardless of date, with others following it. Clicking the “Tickets” button will take you to a site where you can purchase your seats.

The new ticket system comes by way of a partnership with Ticketmaster. Google says that it’s rolling this feature out for a few hundred artists that use Ticketmaster for tickets at first. In the future, it will roll out to all artists who have Ticketmaster shows in North America with plans to expand globally.

YouTube’s massive fan base paired with Ticketmaster’s global roster of concerts and security of verified tickets means we can easily connect a fan’s discovery of music on YouTube to their ability to purchase concert tickets.

The feature is rolling out now and should show up for you soon, if it hasn’t already. It’s not limited to desktop either, as mobile users can also get in on the fun. The feature works in the standard YouTube app but not the YouTube Music app as of yet. We’d expect to see it roll out there soon, but there’s no official word from Google.

As of right now, Google is only teaming up with Ticketmaster on this project. There’s no mention of expanding to other ticketing companies and not all artists use Ticketmaster. If your favorite artist doesn’t have shows listed, they’re either not in the program yet or don’t use Ticketmaster.
