When I first heard of the Archos tablets with an actual built in hard-drive I was very skeptical. A few questions popped in my head about battery life, response time, weight, thickness, and stability. Would I feel this tablet jerking around in my hands as I do with a normal external hard-drive picked up during use? So many pro’s and con’s popped up in the equation with the addition of such a feature over normal flash memory. To me the Archos 10.1 G9 Turbo is a very interesting concept, read on to find out if Archos pulled this off successfully, or …

Fresh from rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to its G9 tablet lineup last week, Archos is releasing the turbo versions of the Archos 80 G9 and Archos 101 G9 tablets, which received a nice bump in the clock speed department and come with ICS straight out of the box. You can now get the “new” Archos 80 G9 and Archos 101 G9 with a Texas Instruments OMAP 4 dual-core 1.5GHz processor, whereas the previous iterations only went as high as 1.2GHz. The speed bump may not necessarily bring significant improvement to the tablets’ performance, but the devices do ship …
Although French consumer electronics company Archos has been in the Android tablet business since September 2009 (when they released the Archos 5 Internet tablet), they are not a name that you would normally associate with top-end devices. The Archos business model was, at least up until now, to provide cheap Android tablets for the lowest possible price. Obviously, the fruits of this philosophy weren’t exactly the slimmest or the best performing tablets around, but that’s sort of about to change, with the imminent release of the Archos G10 xs series of tablets, which will feature a super-thin profile of only …
Archos G9 tablets owner, you will soon be able to join the small ranks of Android device owners in the world that sport Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Thanks to the special mail that was just delivered in our mailbox today, we are pleased to inform you that Archos is planning to roll out over-the-air upgrade for all Archos G9 tablets to ICS starting today. Devices that are eligible for the ICS update include the Archos 80 G9 and Archos 101 G9 models; both the classic and turbo variants. Upgrading the old Honeycomb to ICS is as simple as connecting …
Admittedly, there are a lot of people who are unfamiliar Archos’ Arnova tablet lineage. But even though, we believe we are putting things at a fair game here, especially since this line comes cheaper than the price of the (already) cheap main series of Android tablets. So when the company announced the latest member of its Arnova family, we did not stop to re-consider if it would be a good topic to talk about; as we’re sure someone somewhere is looking for a starter tablet that won’t cost him an arm and leg. The latest entry to this lineage is …
When you think about it, the current generation of cheap Android tablets isn’t going to last long. First, the constant pace of technology is going to make them obsolete pretty fast. Second, others are going to be delivering a better experience for pretty much the same price. That’s why it’s no surprise that we’re starting to see the second generation of these tablets. Archos has been selling their Arnova line – and last week we saw the G2 version of the company’s eight-inch tablet at the FCC. Well, it seems that isn’t where the company is stopping. We’re set to …
Mobile phones aren’t the only smart ones anymore. Archos, the French consumer electronics manufacturer, has come up with a new line of home phones that run on the Android operating system. The Smart Home Phone and the Home Connect are handsets that are based on the Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) standard and practically function just like most of the Android mobile phones available today. Except that they’re not carried around in the pocket; they’re left on the dresser or the coffee table back at home. The Smart Home Phone can connect through any ADSL or basic phone line. Its …
The above title is referring to June 23rd, to be specific. With its sights set on grabbing a hefty chunk of the Android market, especially in France where it beat Samsung by a huge margin, invitations are now circulating among various media outlets for a very special date. What makes this Archos event so exciting is the new Generation 9 tablets they’ll finally reveal to the world. A lot of people griped about Archos being behind the times in the past. Now it’s different as Archos have embraced the Honeycomb OS for their next line of tablets. The Generation 9 …
This device from Archos really looks smooth. As a French consumer electronics company, Archos have no excuse for a lack of style. Fortunately, the 43 internet tablet is a testament to good design. This device runs Android and offers a whole host of features including tethering to your 3G enabled phone for high-speed internet, and HD video recording. Here is a break down of the most interesting and exciting features to be found on this Android device. Internet: Surf the web in full width just like on your PC, and stay in contact by using the integrated email and contacts …
Here’s video that Todd Haselton of MobileBurn.com shot for us, with the help of Will Park from IntoMobile, showing you the Android powered Archos 10 tablet.
Anyone looking to purchase the Archos 32, an 8GB media player running Android? It seems someone accidentally posted the new Personal Media Player a bit early, before removing it, but we still managed to get the details on this unannounced product. The Archos 32 will offer a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, 8GB of storage for media files, 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity, a built-in camera, Bluetooth, a web browser, and Android 2.1 as the operating system. The media player is expected to be offered for $147.00. [via Engadget]
Archos CEO Henri Crohas recently announced in a press conference Archos’ intentions to release a slew of tablet based devices running Google Android. In the image to the right, a quick gander led me to believe that Archos have excellent style, branding and design continuity going on there, but it became clear that each tablet you see before you is the same image, adjusted in size to represent the different tablet screen sizes. The tablet sizes will range from 3” to 10” whereby the latter will sport 800MHz and 1GHz ARM Cortex-based chips. According to our sources, at least one …
Archos expanded its tablet offerings today by introducing the Archos 7 and Archos 8 Home Tablet, two low cost Android tablets that target the home user. The Archos 7 Home Tablet shares the same form factor as the Archos 5 Internet Tablet but is powered by a 600MHz ARM9 CPU, not the more powerful ARM Cortex-A8 TI OMAP3 processor of its predecessor. The Archos 7 Home Tablet features a seven inch, 800×480 resistive touchscreen display, extensive video codec support including 720p video playback with bitrates up to 2500kbit/s, built-in speakers, WiFi, USB host functionality, microSD expansion, composite video out, a …
