The original idea behind the Concept updates was to give Sony the chance to get feedback from Xperia X owners about what new features and improvements might be added to the phone. Sony used that feedback to release those updates under an Experimental track, apart from the regular firmware and OS updates for the Xperia X.

In a forum post, Sony stated that the members of the Xperia InTouch community “have been invaluable to us” in helping to release these Concept updates for this version of the Xperia X. Indeed, the last such release was made earlier this week, as Sony updated the Xperia X to Android 7.1.2 Nougat. While the updates will end in May, the community forum will continue to stay open for the time being.

While the Concept updates are going to stop for the Xperia X, Sony is hinting strongly they may continue for an upcoming phone. It’s forum post stated it will launch an online community similar to the InTouch group for the Xperia XZ Premium. That high-end phone is expected to launch sometime later this spring.
