Samsung has yet another reason to celebrate. Its quad-edge flexible AMOLED display, used on the Galaxy S7 Edge, has received an award from the Society for Information Display (SID). This is a very important award in the industry that’s given to displays that incorporate the most significant technological advances as well as outstanding features.

The Society for Information Display thinks that Samsung’s screen deserves the award for quite a few reasons. Among the things mentioned were an enhanced grip comfort that it enables because of its curved edges and its circuit plan, which minimizes the bezels around the screen.

This isn’t the first award Samsung got from SID. Two of the company’s AMOLED panels also received the Display of the Year” title in 2013 and 2015.

Samsung Galaxy S8 display burn-in: should you be worried?
News

Samsung started manufacturing flexible displays in 2013 and has used them in quite a few of its smartphones so far. These include the Galaxy S8 generation as well as last year’s Galaxy S7 Edge, among others. More devices with a curved screen from other manufacturers are expected to be released in the future. Some rumor claim that Google’s upcoming Pixel will be one of them.

However, not every manufacturer is impressed with curved displays. LG, for example, said that it didn’t use it on the G6 because it would make it harder to hold. Additionally, the tech giant claims that a curved screen isn’t quite as durable as a standard flat display and can crack more easily.
