You’ve no doubt seen the trailers or at the very least heard about Pixels, an upcoming Sony Pictures movie starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, and sevearl other well known stars. Today Bandai Namco has announced it will be partnering with Sony to produce a free-to-play mobile game version of the upcoming film.

The game has you take on the role of the movies heroes, who are sent to stop the aliens that are using 80s gaming characters as their weapons of mass destruction. What makes the game really stand out is that it marks the first time that Frogger, Qbert, Pac-Man, and other iconic 80s game characters have starred in the same game together.

Not a lot of the game’s details are known just yet, though here’s part of the official statement from Bandai Namco, which gives a small taste of what we should expect:

With the Pixels mobile game, our goal is to capture the spirit of the movie and provide a new take on the popular tower defense genre of games. We have worked hard to reference some of the great action set pieces from the movie casting players in the role of the movie’s heroes, the Arcaders.

As for when the game will be released? There’s no set date yet, though it is expected to hit ahead of the July 24th launch of the movie. For those interested, you can check out the movie trailer below:
