It was discovered last month that some of Huawei’s P10 devices didn’t house an oleophobic coating on the display. This is a common treatment for smartphone screens which reduces the appearance of smudges and oil on the glass, so it was a surprise (and disappointment) when it was uncovered that it wasn’t featured on all of Huawei’s P10s.

Following complaints, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group Richard Yu has stated that the company will help apply this coating to device’s which lack it in China, via Huawei stores. This would generally concern earlier models, as the original issue with the coating’s application (which reportedly pertained to a static electricity build up and Gorilla Glass 5) was fixed for later devices that shipped.

Meanwhile, Yu also discussed the recent news about the P10 shipping with different memory configurations. According to Engadget, Yu said that a “serious shortage” of flash memory had forced the company to use different (slower) chips in certain devices, but maintained that “a good real-life performance and experience” is still offered by the P10. I’m not sure that’s going to be of much comfort to those now stuck with the lower-performing configuration, but there you go.

As a side note, an oleophobic coating was applied to the screen protectors supplied with the P10, so if you are still using yours, I’d advise you don’t remove it.
