Game of Thrones Opening Credits

The Game of Thrones intro has become the stuff of legend. Regularly pumped up to max volume at the start at each episode, the memorable flyover of the “realms of men” is enough to get any fan excited for what’s to follow. But that title sequence just got better, because you can now explore the map of Westeros in 360° video.

The official Game of Thrones Facebook page posted the interactive 360° video to its page in collaboration with Facebook and the title sequence’s creators, Elastic. With a couple of weeks yet to go until the start of season six – the first season of the show to project beyond George R. R. Martin’s books – the majority of us will have to make do with exploring the opening credits in VR to tide us over.

But there is one person with access beyond the normal scope of the rest of us, and I’m not talking about Varys. It has been confirmed that the President of the Unites States of America, Barack Obama himself, is receiving advance copies of season six episodes, because… POTUS. Short of entering the campaign trail, the rest of us will have to make do with the breadcrumbs given us.

You can watch the 360° on your browser in 2D – just click and drag to look around while the video plays – although you are still confined to the general sweep of the “camera’s” location in space. The good news is you can still look around when the video is paused, so you won’t miss any details. You can also watch the video in Gear VR, but it’s a pretty pixellated affair. A word to the wise: don’t look up when you pass beneath the Titan of Braavos.

How pumped are you for Game of Thrones season six? Did you look up?
