Xiaomi Max launch

Several weeks ago leaks were sufficiently sprung when it was revealed that Chinese OEM, Xiaomi, was planning to produce a pretty big phablet. Named the Xiaomi Mi Max, the device allegedly featured an impressively large 6.4-inch screen. Soon thereafter, Xiaomi itself started teasing it, followed by an actual event announcement. While the phone is set to be officially unveiled on May 10th, the mystery and intrigue surrounding the phone has been spoiled somewhat, as China’s TENAA regulatory authority has inspected the phablet, photographed it, and put up the specs.

First of comes the phone itself, with Android Central having spliced together the two images for maximum effect:

Next come the specs: The phone is listed with a 6.4 inch Full HD (1920 X 1080) display, a Snapdragon 650 SoC, a 16-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front facing camera, and a 4,000mAh battery. Two different variants have been listed, one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, and a second with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage.

Suffice to say the Mi Max isn’t going to be a screaming powerhouse, but the specs seem to be decent enough. One question that arises is just how well the SoC will be able to push the extra large display, as Lenovo’s PHAB Plus smartphone from last year suffered from lag-related issues with its Snapdragon 600-series silicon.
