Two of the most sought-after handsets, the Samsung Droid Charge and the iPhone 4S 16 GB, are making their way into people’s Christmas wish lists. Each phone carries its own trademark features, which make it very difficult to choose between two good products.

This comparison will help you get an overview of the two phones’ chief features and how they stack up against each other.  Hopefully, at the end of the post, you can get a fair idea of which one to strike off your Christmas list (that is, if you only have to choose between the two).

Verizon Files Trademark for ‘Hologram,’ Stirs Rumors of 3D Smartphone

by: Rann May SmithNovember 25, 2011

Verizon recently filed a trademark application for “Hologram,” which stirred rumors about a new handset device with 3D capabilities from the said company. No further information was provided, but rumors has it that Verizon might produce either an entirely new 3D phone or an upgrade of handsets we have seen before.

AT&T and Sprint were the first ones to launch the 3D phones in the U.S. without the need for glasses such as HTC Evo 3D and LG Thrill. It was disappointing, thoug,h that these phones didn’t live up to the expectations in terms of sales, but Verizon may have felt the need to catch up with the other providers in terms of technology. Hence, the [...]

by: Rann May SmithNovember 24, 2011

AT&T and Samsung have just announced that an over-the-air upgrade for Android 2.3.6 has begun pushing out to AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.  The update is expected to resolve the Google Voice Search issue.

Galaxy S2 Skyrocket users are hoping that they could finally use Google Voice Search after the update.

If you haven’t received any notifications just yet, you may want to check for the update manually. To do so, just tap on Software Update under Settings and click on Check for Updates. Updates would usually run for minutes depending on your download speeds, so you might want to take a sit for this one.

Canadians should get themselves ready – their pockets and wallets, that is – for the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime is hitting Staples Canada anytime soon. Many have seen that Staples Canada has already listed the Transformer Prime as “coming soon” on the Staples website.

There have been rumors or speculations that the Transformer Prime will not be reaching Canada, but we weren’t exactly sure where those came from or why such rumors existed. Nonetheless, we are happy to announce that Canadians will have something to look forward to in the holidays.

The ASUS Transformer Prime comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display and a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 [...]

Samsung Galaxy S3 Rumored to Use Quad-core Exynos 4412

by: Rann May SmithNovember 22, 2011

Just when you are still trying to catch your breath over the Samsung Galaxy S II, the Korean company seems to have started testing possible processors to put on the the Galaxy S II’s successor, aptly and fondly codenamed the Samsung Galaxy S III.

A likely candidate is Samsung’s own dual-core Exynos processor, which is already inside most of the Galaxy S II versions.  However, a quad-core Exynos has been recently discovered by Korean blog Chocoberry: Paradise Lost.

While sorting through postings and logs on the Linux Kernel Archives, Chocoberry stumbled upon mentions of an Exynos 4412, a 32 nm ARM Cortex-A9 with four cores.  The Exynos 4412 [...]

Android Pattern Unlock Now Google’s Patent

by: Rann May SmithNovember 20, 2011

After Apple acquired the patent for the Slide to Unlock feature for all iPhone phones, Google has also been officially awarded last week the patent for the Android pattern unlock feature. Pattern Unlock  sets Android apart from Apple’s iOS and is, perhaps, the chief reason why Google wanted a patent for such technology.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office granted Google the rights to patent number 20110283241 entitled “Touch Gesture Actions From A Device’s Lock Screen,” which, in a nutshell, is described as follows:

A lock screen view is displayed on the mobile device to prevent unauthorized and inadvertent access to the mobile [...]

Nyandroid Easter Egg Hidden Inside Ice Cream Sandwich

by: Rann May SmithNovember 16, 2011

It has become a tradition for Google engineers to put Easter eggs in every Android version that comes out of their kitchen, and Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) is no exemption.  In the Gingerbread, Google placed a horde of zombies, while it was a buzzing bee, of course, for Honeycomb.  This time, for Ice Cream Sandwich, they placed a flying Bugdroid, styled in a similar way to the Nyan Cat on YouTube that spread around virally a while back.

To view the ICS Easter egg, navigate to Settings > About phone and tap several times on the Android version.  A small Bugdroid comes to life on your screen, but it doesn’t do anything at all. However, if you long-press on [...]

by: Rann May SmithNovember 15, 2011

Bell Canada recently launched LG’s 720p HD smartphone, the LG Optimus LTE, said to one of the chief competitors of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  The praises it received on the first day of launch brought intrigue and high hopes that the LG contender would be brought stateside, and since both AT&T and Bell Canada share the same frequency, it was very possible. Much to our surprise, Pocketnow confirmed that indeed the LG Optimus LTE will be launched in the U.Ss in the coming weeks.

A leaked press shot of the LG phone confirms that indeed the Optimus LTE will be launched and is heading to AT&T.  The first or second – depending on its launching date vis-a-vis [...]
